چکیده

In order to investigate whether circulating immune complexes containing Pseudomonas aeruginosa antigens mediate pulmonary damage in cystic fibrosis, we studied lung function, serum immune complex levels, and immunoglobulin concentrations in relationship to chronic pseudomonas colonisation in 69 affected children. Sixteen of the children with cystic fibrosis had increased levels of immune complexes which contained pseudomonas antigens. There was no significant relationship between lung function corrected for the effect of chronic pseudomonas colonisation and the presence of such complexes or increased levels of complexes detected by Clq binding or raised serum immunoglobulin concentrations. Our results suggest that these abnormalities in cystic fibrosis are secondary effects of chronic infection and they do not provide evidence for immune complex mediated lung damage in this disease.

Cationic Immune Stimulating Complexes Containing Soluble Leishmania Antigens: Preparation, Characterization and in Vivo Immune Response Evaluation

Background: Cationic immune stimulating complexes (PLUSCOMs) are particulate antigen delivery systems. PLUSCOMs consist of cationic immunostimulatory complexes (ISCOMs) derivatives and are able to elicit in vivo T cell responses against an antigen. Objective: To evaluate the effects of PLUSCOMs containing Leishmaniamajor antigens (SLA) on the type of immune response generated in the murine mod...

Immune complexes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa antibodies in cystic fibrosis.

Serum samples from 57 patients with cystic fibrosis were tested for the presence of IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE, and circulating immune complexes containing IgG, IgA, and IgM. Titres of class specific antibodies to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and class specific antibodies to Ps aeruginosa in circulating immune complexes, were also measured. According to the Shwachman score the patients were divided into thr...

Circulating immune complexes in pre-eclampsia.

Sixteen patients with severe pre-eclampsia had more IgG-containing and C1q-binding circulating soluble immune complexes than did 16 matched women with normal pregnancies. The clinical features of preeclampsia may be explained by damage due to such complexes, although raised complex levels were also present in a few women with normal pregnancies. As immune complexes are so heterogenous in terms ...

Specification and quantitation of circulating immune complexes in the serum of patients with active pulmonary sarcoidosis.

BACKGROUND Circulating immune complexes can be elevated in serum samples of patients with sarcoidosis and are associated with disease activity, but their diagnostic significance is not understood. METHODS The different classes of circulating immune complexes containing immunoglobulin A, G, or M, and the content of complement in circulating immune complexes (polyethylene glycol precipitation) ...

The immunoglobulin G subclass composition of immune complexes in cystic fibrosis. Implications for the pathogenesis of the Pseudomonas lung lesion.

It has been shown that pulmonary macrophage (PM) phagocytosis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is inhibited in the presence of serum from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients colonized by Pseudomonas, and that these sera contain high concentrations of IgG2 antibodies. The goal of these studies was to investigate the role that IgG2-containing immune complexes (IC) play in this inhibition of both PM and n...
